Welcome to the page for all things PE! Here you will find our long term plan and information about how we teach and encourage the implementation of PE at Heskin Pemberton’s!

At Heskin, our PE curriculum aims to ensure that:
· All children, regardless of ability, disability, race, SEND or circumstance can fully access our PE curriculum to achieve their potential
· Children recognise the benefits of physical activity, competitive sports and a healthy lifestyle
· Children with talents are encouraged to nurture these talents and excel
· Children enjoy being physically active
· Children get the opportunity to try new sports and a wide range of physical activities
Planning: Teachers closely follow the Lancashire Planning scheme, linked to the National Curriculum. Teachers are able to deviate from/add to this where appropriate. This is discussed with the subject leader. All planning is structured to promote the best outcomes for pupils. All lessons are structured so as to meet the needs of all pupils through quality first teaching.
All PE in the Early Years is delivered using Birth to Five and Development Matters. Children are assessed on entry and again at the end of EYFS, against the Early Learning Goals. The scheme used is the Lancashire Scheme of Work.
Teaching: Every class has two hours of PE every week. Units are delivered by teachers and HLTAs. CPD is offered where required. Staff training on effective pedagogy and changes in PE are delivered during staff meetings to ensure that staff feel confident and well-equipped to deliver outstanding lessons. All units taught are from the outstanding Lancashire PE Passport scheme of work. This ensures that lesson content is well-structured and high-quality. The PE Passport curriculum is repetitive; this promotes sticky learning and supports our children in becoming physically literate. Connections are made between existing and new learning and children are able to practice and apply their learning within core tasks. Our curriculum also allows our children to develop their character values, as these as regularly explored within units.
Leadership, Assessment and Feedback: The subject leader conducts observations and pupil voice on a termly basis. Children are assessed on an ongoing basis throughout units to ensure that their needs are met. End of unit assessments are completed at the end of each unit. Our local provider, Chorley School Sport Partnership (CSSP) provide assessments for EYFS, Y2 and Y6. Assessment data is fed back to the subject leader and head teacher. Feedback is live and ongoing to ensure that the children get the most from the feedback.
The impact of our PE curriculum is evident through the following outcomes:
· Physical Literacy: Pupils display high levels of skill and confidence in a range of physical activities, demonstrating improved physical literacy. They understand and value the benefits of an active lifestyle, which is reflected in their engagement in both curricular and extracurricular activities.
· Participation Rates: A significant number of pupils participating in competitive sports and extracurricular clubs, demonstrating the effectiveness of our programmes in promoting lifelong involvement in physical activities.
· Improved Health and Wellbeing: Positive changes in pupils’ attitudes towards health and fitness are supported by a health and wellbeing programme that complements our PE curriculum, leading to overall improvements in mental and physical health.
· Social Skills Development: Enhanced teamwork and cooperation skills are observed, with pupils exhibiting sportsmanship, leadership, and respect during lessons and competitions.
· Whole-School Ethos: Our approach to PE fosters a culture of health, discipline, and respect across the school, contributing to a positive learning environment where all pupils are encouraged to thrive.
Through our comprehensive approach to PE, we ensure that our pupils not only leave with excellent physical skills but also embody the values that will serve them well throughout their lives.
